Junya Watanabe MAN

Born in Japan in 1961, Junya Watanabe started his apprenticeship at Comme des Garçons as a patternmaker in 1984. His mentor, the founder Rei Kawakubo, saw potential in Junya and promoted him to chief designer of the Tricot knitwear line in 1987. In 1993, Junya created his first line working under his own name as part of Comme des Garçons.
Junya Watanabe takes a lot of influence from Kawakubo, but focuses on adding a personal approach to his garments. He is renowned for reworking classic pieces with a twist, giving great attention to detail. Recently, he has worked on collaborations alongside Brooks Brothers, Trickers and Converse.
